A common concern for owners of outdoor pets is the presence of wildlife.
Stories of lost cats and coyote sightings usually lead people to
undesirable conclusions.
In reality, vehicles are responsible for most feline fatalities. Not only do outdoor cats harm other wildlife, but it shortens their lifespan by a third on average.
Foxes are a neutral, and sometimes curious neighbor. Unless a cat
becomes threatening, such as stealing food or approaching young,
a fox won't behave aggressively. When foxes and cats
have frequent contact they generally become indifferent.

Domestic dogs, even smaller breeds, are more of a threat to foxes than
visa versa. Stray dogs, and those not kept within a fence or leash,
naturally form small packs and may harass wildlife or catch disease.
If you do see an unattended dog or cat roaming the area, please contact the nearest
animal shelter. The pet may become astray, hungry, or injured and needs
to be claimed by their owner.
To keep domestic animals safe in general remember to keep them in a secure enclosure, or your home, from dusk until dawn.
Wild animals are most active during these times, and drivers can't see as well.
With a little care, pets should be able to enjoy the outdoors safely, and you can rest assured that foxes are one of the least concerning threats an outdoor animal might face.
